Barnala, March 25
Taking strong note of Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal banning some books in an open declaration in state legislative assembly and asking for legal action against writers and publishers of these books, a score of rationalist organizations on Monday held a meeting here at Tarkshhel bhawan. Terming the Badal’s outbursts as undemocratic and an attack on the freedom of ex-pression, the organizations have asked him to revoke the ban, if it since has been imposed. Along with it the rationalist organizations have also taking note of some Hindu organizations burning the books and roaming in bazaars with unsheathed swords have demanded action against those.
Rationalist leaders said the Tarksheel writers and publishers has no intention to hurt the sentiments of any religion and the write ups, to which Hindu organizations objects to, are taken from old Hindu granths. And threatening the writers will not be tolerated at any cost, the rationalist leaders asserted.
In the face of threats the rationalist leaders also demanded the security of tarksheel society and Tarkbharti publication. Tarkbharti had way back in 1985 published books Dev dent te roohan, Tarkbani. Some Hindu organizations last week terming some write ups in these books about Hindu Gods and Goddesses are vulgar have demonstrated against these books at Fazilka and on the demand of Fazilka MLA, CM Parkash Singh Badal had declared to ban these books in assembly.
Hem Raj Steno, Balwinder Singh Jawandha of Tarksheel society Punjab, Surjit Talwar, Amit Mittar of Tarksheel society, Narain Dutt of Inqulabi Kendra and many more after the meeting handed over a memorandum to DC RL Mehta to be forwarded to chief minister.
